News and happenings from Sonoma Savanna Youth Foundation, past and current.

August 2026

It's been a busy summer over here in the Savanna

You may recognize us as the former Safari West Wildlife Foundation, but we are excited to announce that as we have expanded our role in the community, we are now the Sonoma Savanna Youth Foundation. Although our name may have changed, the heart of our mission remains intact: to remove barriers and provide enriching and tactical experiences in nature and science regardless of circumstance for youth.

Now children admitted in hospitals from Huntsville, Alabama to Palo Alto, California will be able to participate in our live programming. We're honored to be able to provide this access, and are counting down the days until we go live!

Three primary pillars

  1. Sonoma Savanna Live, which will stream our live programs directly into our hospital partners.
  2. Our Discovery programs will allow us to provide students and families with in-person, hands-on, science-based days in the field whether that be a field trip to the zoo or a ziplining adventure through the coastal redwoods.
  3. Create and maintain an online educational library that can be accessed and utilized by families and educators that align to science curriculum to support learning in and out of the classroom.

Where the focus is right now

Our primary focus is ensuring that we are getting our Sonoma Savanna Live programs up and running so we can reach as many young learners as possible. With this program, not only will our budding naturalists learn about life in the Savanna, but about different environments and animals like estuaries, pollinators, and even animal rehabilitation farms!

As trailblazers in the live wildlife education and conservation sphere, we want to ensure that our learners are active participants in each of our live programs. It's imperative that we create accessible learning spaces for those who might be otherwise limited in their ability to have these experiences.

Thank you

Without you, we would not be able to grow to expand our mission and provide accessible programming and experiences to children around the country. It's because of your generosity that we have been able to take the time to pinpoint exactly how we can develop our programming to create the biggest impact on the next generation of learners, so thank you for your patience as we've grown. Your continued generosity is integral to our continued success, and any contribution aids in the continuation of the programming for our young naturalists.

We can't wait to show you what we've been working on, but until then, we'll see you out on the Savanna!
